Breast augmentation Surgery 5: Procedure options

--
Some available procedures

At this time there are mainly four types of breast augmentation procedures or methods to insert the implants. Continue below

--

The incision can be made in the area where the breasts meet the chest, in the areola, in the armpit or in the umbilical region.

The breast augmentation on the armpit or umbilical region is used in the case when the doctor does not need to cut excess skin, so they are ideal for younger women.

The last two procedures leave the most unnoticeable scars. They also produce less swelling, because the cut is smaller. Not all doctors work with all the procedures.  The umbilical breast augmentation surgery can only be done with saline breast implants.

The cuts under the bust line and on the areola offer more precision to locate the implants.

Another consideration is where to put the implants - under the pectoral muscle or on top of it. The doctors prefer it under the pectoral muscle, but this is not the best for all patients, so the doctor will evaluate each case.

Types of breast implants
There are mainly two types of implants: saline filled implants and silicone implants. There are mainly two types of silicon implants: silicone gel and cohesive silicone. All types of implants have advantages and disadvantages. The silicone gel and cohesive silicone implants are more natural looking and weigh less. The saline implants are heavier and they do not look natural, but if they leak there are, generally speaking, fewer complications.

In the US, the silicone implants are used only for reconstructive surgery.

Recovery
The recovery period varies from person to person. After the surgery, the doctor is going to put bandages around the breasts to prevent swelling. The bandages are worn for several days. After they are removed, you will need to use a surgical bra. This bra is designed to prevent excessive pressure and give enough support to your new breasts.

For the first few days, the patient experiences pain and swelling. The doctor will give you medication for pain. The discomfort will gradually reduce within 10 days. Some swelling will still remain. The scars will look pink and larger in the beginning, but they will fade as time passes.

It may take a couple of months to get back to your fitness routine, but depending on your type of work, within a few days you can return to work. Every case is different, so your doctor will tell you what is right for you.

When something goes wrong?
Any surgery has risks and breast augmentation is not an exception. Before reading the following list of potential complication, let us tell you that it is considered a low-risk surgery and a relatively easy procedure.

The most common risk is capsular contracture. This occurs when the scar or capsule around the implants begins to tighten. This makes the breast feel hard. It can be treated. Sometimes the surgeon removes the scar tissue around the implant, or it may be necessary to remove or replace the implant.

  Excessive bleeding.

  Development of infections.

Sensitivity problems on the nipples. It can become over-sensitive or numb.

Leaks or breaks. If a saline implant breaks, the saline solution will leak and the implant will lose its volume. The saline solution will be absorbed by the body without causing any harm.

In the case of a silicone gel implant, the doctor will have to remove the implant and clean the area. In these cases, a new surgery is required. In extreme cases, the silicone cannot be cleaned totally.

According to the Plastic Surgery Association, "A few women with breast implants have reported symptoms similar to diseases of the immune system, such as scleroderma and other arthritis-like conditions. These symptoms may include joint pain or swelling, fever, fatigue, or breast pain. Research has found no clear link between silicone breast implants and the symptoms of what doctors refer to as "connective-tissue disorders," but the FDA has requested further study."
