The raw foods diet 6: Raw food for thought-

Personal experience at raw restaurants. The food in restaurants such as Quintessence in New York is just delicious.  In one of the restaurants we visited close to Boston the food was a bit too sweet.   Continues below

We interviewed some raw foodists for this article and here are some of our observations:

People on this diet are skinny, they look healthy and they told us that they have not been sick in years. They do not think the diet is difficult to follow (they lived in New York) and they are very happy with their diet and do not miss normal cooked food. In fact one person we spoke to said that he gets ill if he has to eat regular, cooked dishes.


Some raw foodists on the Internet say that people on this diet have a healthy glow on their faces and skin. We did not necessarily notice this on the people we interviewed but Carol Alt indisputably has this glow. She looks so much younger than she is, but she has always been beautiful any way.    

This is a fashionable diet so expect to see fashion models in the restaurants and trendy people following it. 

Our opinion
After researching this topics in half a dozen books, visiting a couple of raw foods restaurants and raw food shops and trying some dishes in our kitchen, we think moderation is key but we certainly can benefit by eating more raw foods.

I ate raw foods for only one entire day so I cannot make any conclusions, but I felt great the following day feeling more energy and being very happy. I usually eat very healthy, organic food but I think I should eat more raw foods.  I do not think I am ready for a 100% raw diet, I will wait for more conclusive research on the topic.  There are some lofty claims from raw diet followers, such as getting cured of serious illnesses, but unless enough research is available, these are only anecdotes.
