Magazine subscriptions at lower prices

Recently I found out that almost every week Amazon.com has specials for one magazine at $5.00 for a yearly subscription. Today I got an email that Instyle was on sale this week for 5 bucks. This is a low price for this publication that almost never goes on sale.

I love magazines and I used to get my subscriptions on Ebay, but now they do not sell them anymore. So if any of my readers love magazines keep an eye on Amazon.com for cheaper subscriptions.

Try to recycle your old magazines not by putting them in the recycle bin, but by bringing them to the library (some libraries resell them to raise funds) or to a hospital to be used in the waiting areas so other people can enjoy them while waiting.

Michelle Obama Vogue India

I was pleasantly surprise to see that Vogue India had Michelle O. on the cover. Usually Vogue India’s covers are very different than the US version. I have not read the article, but it should be very similar to the one we had.

Many people did not have good comments about the picture used in the US Vogue cover, I personally like it, I did not like some of the pictures in the rest of the article. I hope Michael Obama inspires women in India as well as in all countries to study and be strong and independent.

Michelle Obama in Vogue

The new cover of Vogue magazine features Michael Obama. According to Anna Wintour Michelle is not dressing as the typical first lady with boxy and uncomfortable suits. On the contrary Michelle is using colorful modern fashion.

I like to see Michelle Obama in the cover of Vogue, she is not a model or a celebrity nor super skinny and not an airhead. I also like the fact that Michelle probably will change the image of the nerdy not so pretty, not so fashionable girl you can be both an intellectual, accomplish and attractive, modern women.

According to Andre Leon, Vogue’s editor at large Michelle is tall, slim and athletic. You can see more on Michelle in Vogue’s website.

Allure going out of business

Page Six reported that Allure magazine might be the next magazine going out of business. I hope this is not true; I really like Allure and apparently it is doing well, but the publisher needs to close more magazines.

The publisher is Conde Nast, which also publishes Wired, Vogue, Glamour, W, Self and many others. Recently they also folded Domino magazine. I love magazines and some of my favorites are now out of business: Domino and Blueprint; I really hope Allure stays.

I have to say I met editors of Allure many years ago after they published a ridiculous article criticizing spas and spa treatments. To write the article a very young editor who never had been in a spa (probably right out of college) visited the prestigious spa where I used to work and wrote a stupid article comparing facials to gas chambers. Needless to say some of our customers whose parents were Holocaust survivors were horrified by such idiotic article. I did not read the magazine for years after that incident, because I lost all respect for it. I have also seen places in NYC featured as the best in kind in the magazine, when I know well they are average places (probably with a good PR), so I do not trust their reviews either. Oh well ...
