Zero calories, but they make you fat

There are a few things that do not have calories, but according to studies they do contribute to making us fat. Among them:

Watching television.
Perhaps due to the inactivity, according to studies, the people who watch more television are heavier than people who watch less. Ah.. that Gossip Girl.

Friends.
If your friends are into eating a lot, most likely it will affect your behavior and you may gain weight. I think there is no need to look for skinny friends; we only have to be aware of this fact and watch our behavior. It is difficult, but it can be done.

Sugar substitutes.
They do not have calories or have very little, but they may contribute to making you hungry. Also some people save calories in the drink to consume them eating something else.

Going to the movies.
OK the movies do not make anybody fat, but the popcorn does. Just avoid it and have something healthier or just watch the movie.

Buying larger sizes.
This applies to larger portions of foods as well as larger clothing sizes. If your clothes are tight, it means you are gaining weight, try to eat less for a few days and they will fit well again. If you just let the weight accumulate you will gain more weight than you think and it will be more difficult to get fit.

Living in the suburbs
In most large cities people have to walk a lot. In the suburbs we can take our cars and park very close to everything. Living closer to nature does not mean living a healthier life, we have to make an effort to walk more and be more active.

Bollywood fitness

This type of fitness has been there for a while, but with the recent success of the movie Slumdog Millionaire is more popular than ever. Many gyms are offering classes and the videos are selling more.

Bollywood as you know if the Hollywood of India. The movies in India are mostly musicals with a lot of interesting dances. The dances can be a bit cheesy for the western taste, but some of them are really nice and the choreographs are impressive in many movies.

I have tried many of the videos, I think they could be nice to bring variety to the routine. The videos in the post include part of a fitness video and a real dance form an Indian movie.

Fit to Zumba

Zumba has been in the market for a while, but I did not try it until recently and I love it. I love dancing and zumba is just that. I was afraid that since I am not very coordinated I would have problems following the routines, but that is not the case, although I do get confused sometimes.

I bought the advance video of the original series. The DVD is good, I think some of the reviewers on Amazon have been a bit unfair (just my opinion). Of course, a live class is better. I found a couple of good videos on YouTube, if you have not done Zumba you can try it with these short videos to get a taste of it.

"Get off your feet" and try some Zumba. Try this video

How to get the perfect butt?

To get a perfect butt is any woman's dream. Obviously there is butt augmentation surgery, but it comes with a big price and risks. Alternatively, butt fitness can also be achieved through a combination of aerobics, lunges, and squats. Valerie Waters, a personal trainer to Hollywood celebrities, shows in this video how to do a proper butt workout.

How to get a Hollywood body?

Whether we like it or not but it is a fact that most of our Hollywood celebrities are indeed beautiful and have bodies that are simply close to perfect. And trust me, it takes a lot of work to stay that way, even when you are blessed with a good body and you have great genes (plus help from makeup artists and cosmetic surgeons). If you don't believe me, just look at the celebs that stopped eating healthy or did not workout -- they lost their great bodies and while some Kirstie Alley did it, others couldn't.

I have written previously about how to get a Hollywood body in 6 weeks and wrote other articles based on Hollywood stars like recovering your body after pregnancy, yoga during pregnancy, and yoga on a daily basis.

Daisy Fuentes recently did a series of episodes on television revealing the secrets of the Hollywood stars and their fitness regimen.

Is Jennifer Love Hewitt fat?

The magazines, particularly tabloids, have always had a business based on making fun of Hollywood celebrities. One of the biggest things that they do is to take unflattering photos of the celebs and then make fun of them.

With the proliferation of bloggers who say whatever they have on their mind without ever being sensitive to others, the gossip has gone out of control. Since every blogger is desperate to draw visitors to the blogs and get more advertising revenue, they often say outrageous things not because they mean it, but that is the only way to create controversy and hope that people will visit their blogs. My personal recommendation is that you should ignore these bloggers and boycott them by not falling into their trap.

While celebs take better care of their bodies and often succeed in Hollywood because they were beautiful in the first place, they are still human. They age like the rest of us and have the same health issues as us. Jenifer Love Hewitt is a gorgeous woman (I think even these photos in Hawaii, she looks great; for Goodness' sake, she is just size 2 and still in her 20s) but if she has cellulite or her butt looks too big - well, ask any woman and she will have the same challenges.

Partner yoga moves video

Yoga is a great form of exercise because you can do it almost anywhere and while it is a good idea to have a yoga mat, you can simply put a towel on the floor if you are in a hotel room. Almost all the time, you can do yoga by yourself.

But what if you want to involve your partner (trying to motive him or her to lose weight and be fit) or just want to do some yoga with a friend, models Tara Stiles and Desiree Dymond demonstrate some great yoga moves in this video.

Pedometer for measuring your workout

Photo of a pedometerIn the world of business it is often said that what cannot be measured cannot be changed. For instance, if you do not know what your cost of shipping is, how will you reduce it?

The same may apply to weight loss. For instance, if you decide to go on a diet, you have to start measuring each and everything you do. For instance, how will you know that you are eating less calories if you do not document each and every thing that you eat.

New research also find that you are more likely to complete your daily physical activity goal if you measure it, say, with the help of a pedometer. A study by Dr. Dena Bravata found that those who wore a pedometer (like the one from Oregon Scientific - one of the best) not only increased their physical exercise, they also reduced body weight and blood pressure.

Of course, it is also important to have a target and try to at least reach it everyday. If you are trying to lose weight, a reasonable goal to have is 10,000 steps daily.

Yoga for beginners

You have probably heard all the wonderful things about yoga. Maybe your friends rave about it. You might have watched all the celebrities attribute their good looks to youth to peace of mind to yoga. I do not want to say that yoga can cure all the problems that we have, but it is true that people who practice yoga regularly do enjoy better health and can experience inner peace. While yoga has become a big business now with fees for instructors, videos, apparel, and accessories, you do not need any of these unless you want to. Just wear comfortable clothing, put a mat on the floor, and you are all set to go. Tara Stiles, a model, shows you in this simple video how to get started with yoga.
