The new fashion book from Nina Garcia is called Look Book: What to Wear for Every Occasion. It is a great book for a gift to a recent graduate or someone who wants to learn more about style.
I read it yesterday and went to check what other people were saying about the book on Amazon. Some people there have harsh comments, but I think the book has its place. I have read all other Nina’s books and I am a magazine lover (I do not like the word junkie). With that in mind I agree with other reviewers that the book has little new information for someone who routinely reads fashion magazines and is familiar with Nina’s other books.
However, the book is a nice compilation of useful information in a very pleasant and easy to read format. It has the now very familiar (to Nina’s readers) beautiful illustrations by artist Ruben Toledo. I think format and graphics wise, this is Nina’s best book. It is a very girly book with no-nonsense advise, perhaps familiar to fashion lovers, but useful to people who are starting out. Judging from how some people dress there is a need for this book.
I like the part on what to wear if you work from home (as I do). I like her advice to go for a walk on the afternoon and dress nicely. I also like some of Nina’s comments on “fashion rules” I always have considered them so old-fashioned and it looks that Nina thinks the same way about some of them.
I would have liked to see pictures and graphics since the title is Look Book. I think the second part of the title is more appropriate, it should be called “What to wear for every occasion” because there if not much to look in the book. All in all I like the book, and as I said before, I think is a nice book for a gift specially to a young girly woman.
