Deep chemical peels-

Traditionally these peelings have used a substance called phenol. These are the deepest type of peels and require some anesthesia.

They may bleach the skin permanently, but they give very good and longer-lasting results. 

They were used mainly for rejuvenation and still some doctors offer the service, but others prefer to use laser treatments or other procedures.

The “bleaching” of the skin caused by the peel is irreversible and looks unnatural. Some people have to use makeup to cover it after the treatment.  (article continues below)        
 

The reason phenol peels are not as common now is because it is a toxic substance that may affect the heart, kidneys and other vital organs and doctors have better choices now to obtain the same results, for example, lasers. 

The recovery time for these peelings can be several weeks. The cost can be from $2,000 to $5,000 dollars.
